Salt (NaCl), sodium chloride, mineral substance of great importance to human and animal health, as well as to industry. The mineral form halite, or rock salt, is sometimes called common salt to distinguish it from a class of chemical compounds called salts. Salt is essential to the health of both people and animals. Table salt, used universally as a seasoning, is fine-grained and of high purity. After common salt There are two most useable salts available in market Black Salt (Kala Namak) & Pink Rock Salt (Sendha Namak).

Seasoning is the process of adding herbs or spices to food to enhance the flavour. Seasonings include herbs and spices, which are themselves frequently referred to as "seasonings".

However, Larousse Gastronomique states that "to season and to flavour are not the same thing", insisting that seasoning includes a large or small amount of salt being added to a preparation. In addition to the choice of herbs and seasoning, the timing of when flavours are added will affect the food that is being cooked.

The most common seasonings are salt, pepper, and acids (such as lemon juice). When seasonings are used properly, they cannot be tasted; their job is to heighten the flavours of the original ingredients.
